Why Projects Fail - Especially SW…..My Point of View
SW Project : a failure or a success, is at a lot can be determined by the team which is working on that either in advance or with the time (sorry forgot to mention those continous changes, that change the face of the application from time to time).
During a short span of 2-3 yrs, i understood a lot abt failures then success. Even i think Success of a person or a project depends upon the failures, through which he travels. InEfficient Managers ( even developers) , Unrealistic guidelines, Wrong direction ( or Changing direction ) or just bcoz, you dont know, what you are doing. It happens a lot of times, that even the developer doesn’t know, what he is trying his/her hand at.
Thinking about the failures that we met, I want to focus on some of the important ones:
1. Absence of an techincal Guide: Can anybody think of a building without the chief architect. well if happens here. not always but sometimes.
2. Presence of a lot more managers then the actual Team Members: Looks difficult on paper, but its true.
3. Awesome Politics: Whoever can left that behind, everybody things the is the greatest *ss around to dive in that and will come with waving a yelllow flag out of the dirty muddy politicis.
4. UnRealistic Guidelines: The most interesting part, that makes the project a great Success. but sometimes, everyone knows, the client or manager is on the head without a purpose and off course, sometimes without the work.
My Momma, always said life is a box of chocolates, you never know, which one will come - Famous Quote from Tom Hanks Movie “FORREST GUMP”.
I really remember the famous quote, if buildings are being made the way the SW engineers, then only god is the best suited person, to think of this kind of Architecture & off course, to implement it.
But one thing that i like most abt IT industry is KAIZEN, Continuous Improvement. with tech’s, the kind of pivotal role they are playing in one project and suddenly out in other project, for the same very reason IMPROVEMENT. At least it gives and in turn motivates people to move on without looking behind.
